Stuttgart Open: Wimbledon finalist Berrettini wins in first match since Mid-March

Returning from a hand surgery, Matteo Berrettini defeated Radu Albot in three sets to advance to the quarter-finals of the Mercedes Cup in Stuttgart

Italy’s Matteo Berrettini, the No 2 seed, moved into the quarter-finals of the Stuttgart Open by defeating qualifier Radu Albot 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 at Tennis Club Weissenhof on Wednesday afternoon.

Berrettini, ranked No 10 and a finalist at Wimbledon 2021, needed one hour and 53 minutes for the win and will face the winner of the match between Italian Lorenzo Sonego, the No 6 seed, and German wildcard Jan-Lennard Struff next.

This was Berrettini’s first match since Indian Wells in mid-March due to a right hand injury for which he underwent surgery.
