Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, the No 3 seed, won against Dutch qualifier Botic van de Zandschulp 7-6 (3), 7-5 to move into the last eight of the Swiss Indoors at the St. Jakobshalle in Basel.
Tsitsipas, ranked No 11, will face the winner of the match between Spaniard Pedro Martinez Portero and Frenchman Arthur Fils, the No 7 seed, next.
The Greek edged out Argentinian Francisco Cerundolo (6-3, 6-7 (3), 7-6 (4)) in the previous round of the Basel tournament.
During the first round of the Basel tournament, Van De Zandschulp, ranked No 67, benefited from the abandonment of Kazakh Alexander Bublik (3-6, 6-4, 4-0).
