Canadian Denis Shapovalov, the No 9 seed, reached the last 8 of the Swiss Indoors by winning against French lucky loser Valentin Royer 7-6 (3), 6-2 at the St. Jakobshalle. in Basel on Thursday afternoon.
Shapovalov, ranked No 23, will play Brazilian Joao Fonseca next.
The Canadian edged out American Marcos Giron (6-7 (3), 6-0, 7-6 (4)) ahead of his victory.
In the previous round of the Basel tournament, Royer, ranked No 69, defeated Belgian Raphael Collignon (6-4, 7-6 (5)).
