Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas reached the final of the Swiss Open – his first of the season – by beating Serb Miomir Kecmanovic, the second seed, 6-2, 6-3 at the Roy Emerson Arena in Gstaad on Saturday.

Ramos-Vinolas, ranked No 79, will face the winner of the match between Argentinian Pedro Cachin and Serb qualifier Hamad Medjedovic next in his 12th career final.

Although Kecmanovic is 35 places higher in the rankings than the Spaniard, it was Ramos-Vinolas who went into their match with the sole win in their previous head-to-head, winning 7-6 (2), 6-3 on hard court in Zhuhai back in 2019.

Earlier in the tournament, the 35-year-old Spaniard won against Italian wildcard Fabio Fognini (6-1, 2-6, 6-2), Italian Lorenzo Sonego, the No 3 seed (6-3, 3-6, 6-4) and Peruvian Juan Pablo Varillas (6-7 (2), 6-1, 6-4).

Kecmanovic, ranked No 44, defeated Swiss wildcard Dominic Stricker (7-6 (4), 6-1) and edged out Belgian qualifier Zizou Bergs (6-4, 3-6, 7-5) in the previous rounds of the Gstaad tournament.
