Top seed Zverev beats Shelton to make Stuttgart final

German Alexander Zverev, the top seed, defeated American Ben Shelton, the No 3 seed, 7-6 (8), 7-6 (1) to reach the final of the Stuttgart Open at Tennisclub Weissenhof Stuttgart on Saturday.
Zverev, ranked No 3, will play American Taylor Fritz, the second seed, next.
“I’m super happy to be in the final, it’s my first grass-court final since 2017,” Zverev said, quoted by the ATP Tour website. “It’s been eight years. I actually really like playing on the surface. I’m happy to be in the final in Germany again, I’m looking forward to it.”
The German won against Frenchman Corentin Moutet (6-2, 7-6 (7)) and American Brandon Nakashima, the No 6 seed (7-5, 6-4) in the previous rounds of the Stuttgart tournament.
Earlier in the tournament, Shelton, ranked No 12, beat French qualifier Pierre-Hugues Herbert (7-6 (4), 7-5) and No 8 seed Jiri Lehecka (6-4, 6-4).
