Toronto Masters: Davidovich Fokina misses out on final

Australian Alex De Minaur advanced to the final of the Toronto Masters by winning against Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 6-1, 6-3 at the Aviva Centre on Saturday evening.

De Minaur, ranked No 18, will face the winner of the match between American Tommy Paul, the No 12 seed, and Italian Jannik Sinner, the No 7 seed, next.

The Australian defeated No 11 seed Cameron Norrie (7-5, 6-4), Canadian wildcard Gabriel Diallo (6-4, 7-5), American Taylor Fritz, the No 8 seed (7-6 (7), 4-6, 6-1) and Russian Daniil Medvedev, the second seed (7-6 (7), 7-5) earlier in the tournament.

In the previous rounds of the Rogers Cup, Davidovich Fokina, ranked No 37, won against American J.J. Wolf (6-0, 6-2), German Alexander Zverev, the No 13 seed (6-1, 6-2), Norwegian Casper Ruud, the No 3 seed (7-6 (4), 4-6, 7-6 (4)) and American Mackenzie McDonald (6-4, 6-2).
