Toronto Masters: Khachanov into last eight (againt Michelsen)

Russian Karen Khachanov, the No 11 seed, advanced to the quarter-finals of the Toronto Masters by winning against Norwegian Casper Ruud, the No 8 seed, 6-4, 7-5 at the Aviva Centre on Saturday. This is Khachanov’s first win over Ruud in three encounters.

Khachanov, ranked No 16, will face No 26 seed Alex Michelsen next.

The Russian has just gained his first Top 20 win since defeating No. 9 Dimitrov in ATP Masters 1000 Paris quarter-final in October 2024 (0-11 since) and his 10th ATP Masters 1000 quarter final. The Canadian Open is his second most successful ATP Masters 1000 event in match wins behind Paris.

In the previous rounds of the Rogers Cup, Ruud, ranked No 13, beat Portuguese Nuno Borges, the No 30 seed (7-5, 6-4) and Russian Roman Safiullin (6-3, 6-3).
