No 4 seed Ben Shelton reached the final of the Toronto Masters by winning against second seed Taylor Fritz 6-4, 6-3 at the Aviva Centre on Thursday night.
Shelton, ranked No 7, will play Russian Karen Khachanov, the No 11 seed, next.
In the previous rounds of the Rogers Cup, Ben Shelton beat Australian Alex De Minaur, the No 9 seed (6-3, 6-4), Italian Flavio Cobolli, the No 13 seed (6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (1)), No 25 seed Brandon Nakashima (6-7 (8), 6-2, 7-6 (5)) and French qualifier Adrian Mannarino (6-2, 6-3).
Fritz, ranked No 4, defeated Russian Andrey Rublev, the No 6 seed (6-3, 7-6 (4)), Czech Jiri Lehecka, the No 19 seed (7-6 (4), 6-7 (5), 7-6 (5)), Canadian Gabriel Diallo, the No 27 seed (6-4, 6-2) and Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena (7-5, 7-6 (1)) earlier in the tournament.
