Gael Monfils advanced to the second round of the Vienna Open by beating qualifier Quentin Halys 7-6 (5), 6-3 at the Wiener Stadthalle.
Monfils, ranked No 52, will face the winner of the match between Lorenzo Sonego and No 6 seed Lorenzo Musetti next.
