Australian Open: Munar powers past Shevchenko for first AO win since 2020
Jaume Munar won against Alexander Shevchenko 6-3, 6-3, 6-1 on Sunday night and will play the winner of the match between Frenchman Adrian Mannarino, the No 20 seed, and Swiss Stan Wawrinka in the next round

Prior to 2024, Spaniard Jaume Munar hasn’t had much luck at the Australian Open. Entering Sunday’s clash with Alexander Shevchenko, Munar carried a 1-5 lifetime record at the Happy Slam. But the 26-year-old moved into the second round easily, notching a commanding 6-3, 6-3, 6-1 at Melbourne Park on Sunday night.
Munar cracked eight aces and won 40 of 49 first-serve points, hitting 34 winners against 23 unforced errors, as Shevchenko tossed in 40 unforced errors and managed just 19 winners.
48th-ranked Shevchenko was making his Australian Open main draw debut.
Munar, ranked No 83, will face the winner of the match between Frenchman Adrian Mannarino, the No 20 seed, and Swiss Stan Wawrinka next.
