Australian Open: Rublev survives Wild five-setter to reach second round

The Russian will face the winner of the match between American Christopher Eubanks and Japanese Taro Daniel in the next round

Russian Andrey Rublev, the No 5 seed, survived a dramatic five-setter to reach the second round of the Australian Open on Sunday.

The Russian led two sets to love against Thiago Seyboth Wild before the Brazilian came back to win the next two and force a decider.

Wild saved four match points when trailing 6-5 in the final set before taking the match to a deciding set tiebreak. Once there, Wild led 6-4 before Rublev won six points in a row to complete the 7-5, 6-4, 3-6, 4-6, 7-6 (6) win in three hours and 42 minutes.

Rublev, ranked No 5, will play the winner of the match between American Christopher Eubanks and Japanese Taro Daniel next.
