Roland-Garros: Andreeva, youngest since Hingis to make back to back quarter finals in Roland-Garros

Russian Mirra Andreeva, the No 6 seed, advanced to the quarter-finals of Roland-Garros with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Australian Daria Kasatkina, the No 17 seed, on Monday.
The 18-year-old Russian came back from 3-5 down in the second set and saved a set point to reach her second career Grand Slam quarter-final.
Andreeva, a semi-finalist in Paris last year, became the youngest player to reach back-to-back Roland-Garros quarter-finals since Martina Hingis in 1997 and 1998.
“It was a hell of a match,” said Andreeva, who suffered a tearful loss to Kasatkina in the Ningbo final last October in China. “Honestly, I’m so, so happy I won. I hate playing against her—we practise a lot, and even practice is torture for me.”
“I’m super happy I stayed calm in the second set when she raised her level. I had to fight and keep playing my game. I knew if I believed in myself, I could win a third set.”
Andreeva has yet to drop a set
The match was mostly one-sided, except for a brief dip from Andreeva that allowed Kasatkina to push her to a set point. Still, Andreeva was more assertive and decisive than her compatriot throughout.
Kasatkina often looked like she was over-hitting (33 unforced errors) and struggled with her serve at this level of competition, winning just 54% of points on serve despite landing 79% of her first serves. She conceded four breaks and saved only one break point.
Andreeva, ranked No. 6, will next face the winner of the match between French wildcard Loïs Boisson and American Jessica Pegula, the No. 3 seed, currently underway on Court Philippe-Chatrier.
She has yet to drop a set at this year’s Roland-Garros. The Indian Wells champion previously defeated Spaniard Cristina Bucsa (6-4, 6-3), American Ashlyn Krueger (6-3, 6-4), and Kazakh Yulia Putintseva, the No. 32 seed (6-3, 6-1).
Kasatkina, ranked No. 17, reached the fourth round by beating Katerina Siniakova (6-1, 3-6, 6-2), French wildcard Leolia Jeanjean (6-4, 6-2), and Spaniard Paula Badosa, the No. 10 seed (6-1, 7-5).
