American Amanda Anisimova, the No. 16 seed, secured her spot in the last 16 of Roland-Garros with a 7-6(4), 6-4 win over Denmark’s Clara Tauson, the No. 22 seed, on Friday morning. The match, played on Court 14, lasted 1 hour and 25 minutes.

Anisimova, currently ranked No. 16 in the world, is making a notable run in Paris despite a challenging red clay season, where she recorded two wins and three losses, including early exits in Madrid and Rome, and a quarterfinal finish at the Open Clarens. She had previously reached the final of the Charleston tournament on American clay.

The match was closely contested, with Anisimova winning a total of 79 points to Tauson’s 74. Both players recorded a similar number of winners, but Anisimova’s lower unforced error count and effective break point conversion proved decisive in her straight-sets victory.

She converted 4 out of 6 break point opportunities. Tauson, while displaying resilience, managed to break Anisimova’s serve once but struggled to maintain consistency throughout the match.

Anisimova also demonstrated solid serving, landing 77% of her first serves and winning 73% of those points.

Anisimona didn’t lose a set yet

Anisimova’s journey to the fourth round has been marked by dominant performances. She advanced past Serbian qualifier Nina Stojanovic, who retired at 6-3, 4-1, and defeated Switzerland’s Viktorija Golubic 6-0, 6-2 in just 55 minutes.

In the upcoming round, Anisimova will face the winner of the match between top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus and Serbia’s Olga Danilovic. She was a semi-finalist at Roland-Garros in 2019.

Clara Tauson, ranked No. 22, had a commendable run in Paris, defeating Poland’s Magda Linette 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 and the Netherlands’ Arantxa Rus 7-6(2), 7-5 in the earlier rounds. Despite her third-round exit, Tauson’s performance at Roland-Garros adds to her impressive season, which includes her maiden tour-level title in Auckland and a notable victory over world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in Dubai.
