Roland-Garros: Draper ended Fonseca’s run
Jack Draper won against Joao Fonseca 6-2, 6-4, 6-2 on Saturday. He’ll face the winner of the match between Kazakh Alexander Bublik and Portuguese qualifier Henrique Rocha in the next round

No 5 seed Jack Draper moved into the last 16 of Roland-Garros by winning against Brazilian Joao Fonseca 6-2, 6-4, 6-2.
Draper is now 19-0 after winning the first set this season, and 12-3 on clay alone.
With Jacob Fearnley and Cameron Norrie playing each other, there will be two British men in the fourth round in Paris for the first time since 1963, and the first at any Grand Slam since Andy Murray and Dan Evans both progressed at the 2017 Australian Open.
Once more the British No 1 had to contend with a crowd noisily supporting his opponent, following his victory in the last round over Gael Monfils – but was gracious on court afterwards, saying that he knew that nobody was against him, they were simply in favour of someone else.
Fonseca was seeking to become the youngest man to reach the Roland-Garros fourth round this century.
“I think it was a solid performance from my side. Did a good job. Tough conditions. Felt like I started off well, and my level didn’t really dip throughout the match. A slight wobble to close out the second set, but apart from that, yeah, it was a good match against a good, up-and-coming player.” said Draper after his victory.
Draper, ranked No 5, will face the winner of the match between Kazakh Alexander Bublik and Portuguese qualifier Henrique Rocha next.
Ahead of his victory, Jack Draper beat Italian Mattia Bellucci (3-6, 6-1, 6-4, 6-2) and edged out Frenchman Monfils (6-3, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5).
Fonseca, ranked No 65, won against Pole Hubert Hurkacz, the No 30 seed (6-2, 6-4, 6-2) and French wildcard Pierre-Hugues Herbert (7-6 (4), 7-6 (4), 6-4) in the previous rounds of Roland-Garros 2025.
