Alert: Paolini upsets Rybakina in Roland-Garros quarter-finals
Jasmine Paolini battled past Elena Rybakina in three sets on Wednesday at Roland-Garros. Paolini awaits either Aryna Sabalenka or Mirra Andreeva in the semis.

Italy’s Jasmine Paolini booked a surprising spot in the Roland-Garros semi-finals by beating Kazakh Elena Rybakina 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 on Wednesday afternoon.
Paolini, ranked No 15, will face the winner of the match between Russian Mirra Andreeva and Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, the second seed, on Thursday.
Paolini previously defeated Australian Daria Saville (6-3, 6-4), American lucky loser Hailey Baptiste (6-4, 7-6 (6)), Canadian Bianca Andreescu (6-1, 3-6, 6-0) and Russian Elina Avanesyan (4-6, 6-0, 6-1).
Rybakina, ranked No 4, advanced to the last eight with victories over Greet Minnen (6-2, 6-3), Dutchwoman Arantxa Rus (6-3, 6-4), Belgian Elise Mertens, the No 25 seed (6-4, 6-2) and Ukrainian Elina Svitolina, the No 15 seed (6-4, 6-3).
