US Open: De Minaur survives scare, into second round

Australian Alex De Minaur outlasted Kazakh qualifier Timofey Skatov 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 7-5 to advance to the second round of the US Open at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York on Tuesday evening.

The No 13 seed wasn’t playing his best tennis, striking 48 unforced errors across the four sets. However, by dominating at the net (18/25 points won), De Minaur was able to win 75 percent of his first serve points and scrape his way into the second round, where he’ll face the winner of the match between China’s Yibing Wu and Serb Dusan Lajovic next.
