Andrey Rublev reached the quarter-final stage of three of the four 2023 Grand Slams – and though he is pleased with that, he wants to do even better next year.

That means he has some work to do – and he knows what he wants to work on.

“I’m happy that I was able to make three quarter-finals out of four Slams,” he said ahead of competing in UTS Frankfurt this weekend. “Of course I would like to go further, to try to be in semi-finals, but of four Grand Slams, three quarter-finals is the best so far I did.

“I still can do better some things. Physical-wise I can be even faster…Most of the top 10 guys are faster than me.

“Tougher balls, to bring the balls from tougher positions, and mentality as well – at this level, that’s the most important thing.”

When it comes to UTS, “Rublo” is hoping that he’ll have plenty of fun over the next few days – and that people will enjoy watching the fast-paced format.

“That’s the most important thing,” he said – adding that he’d tried out the rules with Gael Monfils on the practice court.
