Christopher Eubanks beat Australian Christopher O’Connell 7-6 (5), 7-6 (3), 7-6 (2) to reach the last 16 of Wimbledon for the very first time.

The American has had a stellar season that few in the game saw coming. After making the quarter-finals in Miami, Eubanks has gone from strength to strength, culminating in a title win at Mallorca last week before this wonderful run to the second week of Wimbledon.

Eubanks stepped up the quality when he needed it most in the second set tiebreak, finding some superb tennis to clinch the set and put himself in a commanding position from which he earned the win.

Eubanks, ranked No. 43, will face the winner of the match between Serb Laslo Djere and Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, the No 5 seed, next.

The American beat Brazilian Thiago Monteiro (4-6, 7-5, 7-5, 6-3) and edged out No 12 seed Cameron Norrie (6-3, 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (3)) in the previous rounds of The Championships.

Earlier in the tournament, O’Connell, ranked No 73, edged out Serb qualifier Hamad Medjedovic (7-5, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4) and defeated Jiri Vesely (6-3, 7-5, 6-4).
