Barbora Krejcikova defeats Jasmine Paolini to win her maiden Wimbledon title
Barbora Krejcikova won her maiden Wimbledon title on Saturday afternoon, defeating Jasmine Paolini in three sets.
No 31 seed Barbora Krejcikova lifted the Wimbledon trophy by edging out Italian Jasmine Paolini, the No 7 seed, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Londres on Saturday.
In the previous rounds of The Championships, Krejcikova, ranked No 32, defeated Russian Veronika Kudermetova (7-6 (4), 6-7 (1), 7-5), American qualifier Katie Volynets (7-6 (6), 7-6 (5)), Spaniard Jessica Bouzas Maneiro (6-0, 4-3 ret.), American Danielle Collins, the No 11 seed (7-5, 6-3), Latvian Jelena Ostapenko, the No 13 seed (6-4, 7-6 (4)) and Kazakh Elena Rybakina, the No 4 seed (3-6, 6-3, 6-4).
Paolini, ranked No 7, beat Spaniard Sara Sorribes Tormo (7-5, 6-3), Belgian Greet Minnen (7-6 (5), 6-2), Canadian Bianca Andreescu (7-6 (4), 6-1), American Madison Keys, the No 12 seed (6-3, 6-7 (6), 5-5 ret.), American Emma Navarro, the No 19 seed (6-2, 6-1) and Croat Donna Vekic (2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (8)) earlier in the tournament.
