Rune rallies from two sets down, setting Wimbledon Open Era comeback record

Dane Holger Rune, the No 15 seed, reached the last 16 of Wimbledon by coming back against French qualifier Quentin Halys 1-6, 6-7 (4), 6-4, 7-6 (4), 6-1 at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London on Saturday evening.

Rune’s fightback from two sets to love down, marks the tenth time a player has rallied from a two-set deficit to win at this year’s Wimbledon.

Rune, ranked No 15, will play Serb Novak Djokovic, the second seed and seven-time Wimbledon champion, next.

The 21-year-old Dane won against SoonWoo Kwon (6-1, 6-4, 6-4) and Brazilian Thiago Seyboth Wild (3-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2) in the previous rounds of The Championships.

Earlier in the tournament, Halys, ranked No 220, defeated American Christopher Eubanks (6-4, 6-4, 6-2) and Russian Karen Khachanov, the No 21 seed (4-6, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4).
