Pole Iga Swiatek, the No 8 seed, defeated American Danielle Collins 6-2, 6-3 to move into the last 16 of Wimbledon at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London on Saturday evening.

“I was just in the zone,” stated the Pole, during her post-match interview.

“I knew how I wanted to play and I knew that I needed to be brave so I just let my hand do to the job and play fast, from the beginning because you cannot let Danielle play her winners.

“I’m really happy with the performance because there were no ups and downs, it was pretty consistent and a good match.”

The result is the former world No 1’s second time reaching Wimbledon’s fourth round, after having done so in 2021 (losing to Ons Jabeur).

“Honestly, it’s (the grass) is much more fun this year,” stated Swiatek.

“I’ve had practices where the ball was listening to me, which is new for me on grass, and I am just looking for that feeling during the match as well, and, for sure, today was a good day and – in Bad Homburg – I played many good matches, honestly, it’s a new experience.

“If it’s listening, I don’t need to do much, it’s just pretty smooth, I just try to be aggressive and also have my defense, I feel like I’m moving better this year on grass so I can also rely on that sometimes.”

Swiatek, ranked No 4, will play Dane Clara Tauson, the No 23 seed, next.

The Pole won against Russian Polina Kudermetova (7-5, 6-1) and American Catherine McNally (5-7, 6-2, 6-1) earlier in the tournament.

In the previous rounds of The Championships, Collins, ranked No 54, beat Colombian Camila Osorio (6-3, 6-2) and Slovak qualifier Veronika Erjavec (6-4, 6-1).
