Vekic battles past resurgent Badosa to reach Wimbledon quarter-finals
Donna Vekic edged out Paula Badosa 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 and will face the winner of the match between Lulu Sun and Emma Raducanu in the next round
Croat Donna Vekic edged out Spaniard Paula Badosa 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 to advance to the last eight of Wimbledon at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.
Vekic, ranked No 37, will face the winner of the match between New Zealander qualifier Lulu Sun and wildcard Emma Raducanu next.
Ahead of her victory, the Croat won against Chinese Xiyu Wang (3-6, 6-3, 6-4), Russian lucky loser Erika Andreeva (6-2, 6-3) and Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska, the No 28 seed (7-6 (4), 6-7 (3), 6-1).
Badosa, ranked No 93, defeated Karolina Muchova (6-3, 6-2), Brenda Fruhvirtova (6-4, 6-2) and Russian Daria Kasatkina, the No 14 seed (7-6 (6), 4-6, 6-4) in the previous rounds of The Championships.
