Abierto GNP Seguros: Parks upsets top seed Navarro to reach quarters
The 24-year-old will face Slovak Rebecca Sramkova in the next round

Big-serving American Alycia Parks knocked out top seed and countrywoman Emma Navarro 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 to reach the last eight of the Abierto GNP Seguros on Wednesday.
Parks, ranked No 71 in the world, will face Slovak Rebecca Sramkova for a place in the semi-finals of the WTA 500 series event.
In the previous round, Parks defeated Spanish qualifier Cristina Bucsa (6-2, 6-1) while Navarro received a first round bye. Parks, aged 24, has struggled in recent months and has failed to win back-to-back matches on the tour since Dubai in February. Since then, she has won only five matches in 14 tournaments coming into this week.
Navarro’s loss continues a poor run of form for her on the US summer hardcourt swing, during which she has won only one match in four events leading into next week’s US Open.
