Aryna Sabalenka makes first public comment on Koltsov’s death

Belarusian hockey player Konstantin Koltsov – who was romantically linked to world No 1 Aryna Sabalenka – passed away in Miami earlier this week.

For the first time, Sabalenka has spoken out about the incident, confirming that her and Koltsov were no longer together.

“Konstantin’s death is an unthinkable tragedy, and while we were no longer together, my heart is broken,” said Sabalenka on social media on Wednesday evening. “Please respect my privacy and his family’s privacy during this difficult time.”

Sabalenka is still due to compete at the Miami Open this week, with tournament organisers delaying her second round match against Paula Badosa by a day given the circumstances. She will play her first match on Friday.
