German Tatjana Maria advanced to the second round of the Austin Open by defeating Hungarian Anna Bondar 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 at the Westwood Country Club on Tuesday evening.

Maria, ranked No 79, will play Russian Anna Blinkova next.
