Austin Open: Schmiedlova moves into last eight
Anna Karolina Schmiedlova edged out Sachia Vickery 5-7, 7-6 (5), 7-5. She’ll face Latvian Anastasija Sevastova in the next round

Slovak Anna Karolina Schmiedlova edged out American qualifier Sachia Vickery 5-7, 7-6 (5), 7-5 in 2 hours and 50 minutes to advance to the last eight of the Austin Open at the Westwood Country Club on Thursday.
Schmiedlova, ranked No 76, will face Latvian Anastasija Sevastova next. Sevastova holds a 4-0 head-to-head lead over Schmiedlova.
The Slovak edged out American Peyton Stearns, the No 7 seed (6-2, 4-6, 7-5) ahead of her victory.
In the previous round of the Austin tournament, Vickery, ranked No 134, defeated Canadian qualifier Rebecca Marino (6-2, 6-4).
