Armenian Elina Avanesyan reached the last 16 of the Mérida Open Akron by defeating Pole Magdalena Frech, the No 7 seed, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 on Monday night.
Avanesyan, ranked No 45, will next play the winner a the match between Spaniard Jessica Bouzas Maneiro and Slovak wildcard Renata Jamrichova.
