Swiss Rebeka Masarova edged out Mexican Renata Zarazua, the No 5 seed, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 to reach the quarter-finals of the Catalonia Open on Wednesday.
Masarova, ranked No 153, will face No 3 seed Katerina Siniakova next.
The Swiss beat Dutchwoman Arantxa Rus (6-3, 6-4) ahead of her victory.
