Russian Oksana Selekhmeteva defeated New Zealander Lulu Sun, the second seed, 6-0, 6-2 to reach the quarter-finals of the Catalonia Open on Wednesday night.
Selekhmeteva, ranked No 161, will face the winner of the match between Spanish wildcard Aliona Bolsova and Italian Lucrezia Stefanini next.
In the previous round, the 22-year-old Russian won against American Louisa Chirico (6-1, 6-2).
Sun, ranked No 45, beat Spanish qualifier Ane Mintegi Del Olmo (6-4, 6-4) during the 32.
