China’s Qinwen Zheng, the No 3 seed, reached the last 16 of the Charleston Open by winning against Greece’s Maria Sakkari 6-4, 6-1 at the Family Circle Tennis Center on Wednesday.

Zheng, ranked No 8, will play Belgian Elise Mertens, the No 13 seed, next.

Sakkari, ranked No 64, defeated Canadian wildcard Marina Stakusic (6-3, 6-2) in the previous round of the tournament.
