Eastbourne Open: Eala reaches quarter-finals after Ostapenko retirement
Alexandra Eala benefited from the abandonment of Jelena Ostapenko (0-6, 6-2, 3-2) on Wednesday afternoon and will face the winner of the match between Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska and wildcard Francesca Jones in the next round

Filipino qualifier Alexandra Eala moved into the last eight of the Eastbourne Open when Latvian Jelena Ostapenko, the No 3 seed, retired on Wednesday afternoon at the Devonshire Park Lawn Club.
Eala, ranked No 74, led 0-6, 6-2, 3-2 when Ostapenko, ranked No 20, pulled out on Wednesday at the Devonshire Park Lawn Club.
The 20-year-old Filipino will face the winner of the match between Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska and wildcard Francesca Jones next.
Ahead of her victory, Alexandra Eala beat Italian Lucia Bronzetti (6-0, 6-1).
The Latvian won against Sonay Kartal (6-3, 7-6 (2)) in the previous round of the Eastbourne tournament.
