American Taylor Townsend reached the final of the Firenze Ladies Open by edging out Italian Sara Errani, the No 6 seed and the 2012 French Open runner-up, 4-6, 7-5, 7-5 on Saturday afternoon.

Townsend, ranked No 168, will play the winner of the match between No 4 seed Jasmine Paolini and No 8 seed Lucia Bronzetti and next.

Ahead of her victory, the American defeated Croat Ana Konjuh (5-2 ret.), Romanian Ana Bogdan, the No 3 seed (6-0, 6-4) and Italian wildcard Matilde Paoletti (6-3, 6-2).

Errani, ranked No 78, won against wildcard Lisa Pigato (7-5, 6-0), Indian qualifier Ankita Raina (3-6, 6-3, 6-3) and Canadian Eugenie Bouchard (6-3, 1-0 ret.) earlier in the tournament.
