Belarusian qualifier Iryna Shymanovich advanced to the last eight of the Golden Gate Open at Stanford by defeating Montenegrin Danka Kovinic, the No 8 seed, 6-4, 6-4 on Tuesday night.
Shymanovich, ranked No 172, will face the winner of the match between American Robin Montgomery and Russian Kamilla Rakhimova, the second seed, next.
The Belarusian won against Heather Watson (6-2, 6-4) ahead of her victory.
In the previous round, Kovinic, ranked No 95, edged out Romanian Elena-Gabriela Ruse (3-6, 7-5, 7-5).
