Canadian wildcard Marina Stakusic edged out Latvian Jelena Ostapenko, the top seed, 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 to reach the quarter-finals of the Guadalajara Open at the Panamerican Tennis Center on Friday night.
Stakusic, ranked No 155, will play the winner of the match between American Ashlyn Krueger and Pole Magdalena Frech, the No 5 seed, next.
The 19-year-old Canadian beat Slovak Anna Karolina Schmiedlova (6-2, 6-4) ahead of her victory.
