Russian Ekaterina Makarova edged out Romanian Miriam Bulgaru 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 to reach the last 16 of the IEB + Argentina Open on Monday evening.
Makarova, ranked No 200, will play the winner of the match between Serb Nina Stojanovic and Argentinian Julia Riera, the No 6 seed, next.
