Soon to be 19, Gauff through to Indian Wells third round with straight sets win

American Coco Gauff, the No 6 seed, reached the third round of the BNP Paribas Open by beating Spanish qualifier Cristina Bucsa 6-2, 6-4 at Indian Wells on Friday.

Gauff, who turs 19 years old on Monday and is already ranked No 6 in the world, will play the winner of the match between Czech Linda Noskova and American Amanda Anisimova, the No 31 seed, next.

This is third year in a row that the American teen, who reached the finals of the French Open last year, is through to the third round at Indian Wells. This was also Gauff’s 12th win on the tour in 2022 – taking her record this season to 12-3.

Bucsa, ranked No 90, won against qualifier Katie Swan (7-6 (6), 7-5) in the previous round of the Indian Wells tournament.
