Italian Jasmine Paolini, the No 6 seed, beat Tunisian Ons Jabeur, the No 27 seed, 6-4, 6-3 to move into the last 16 of the Italian Open at the Foro Italico in Roma on Saturday.
Paolini, ranked No 5, will face Latvian Jelena Ostapenko, the No 17 seed, next.
In the previous round of the Rome tournament, the Italian won against New Zealander Lulu Sun (6-4, 6-3).
Jabeur, ranked No 36, benefited from the forfeit of Petra Kvitova in the previous round of the Rome tournament.
