Marta Kostyuk, the top seed, won the Open Capfinances Rouen Métropole title by defeating Ukrainian Veronika Podrez 6-3, 6-4 on Sunday on the indoor clay of the Kindarena.

The victory was straightforward for Kostyuk, ranked No 28, who dropped serve only once across the final and controlled both sets with the kind of clean, aggressive tennis she had produced all week. She beat Tatjana Maria, Ann Li, Catherine McNally and Diane Parry on her way to the title, dropping sets in two of those matches before finding her clearest level in the final.

The more compelling story of the week, however, belonged to the player on the other side of the net. Podrez, 19 and ranked No 209, arrived at the Kindarena having never played a WTA main draw match.

She left it as finalist, having beaten Sloane Stephens, Katie Boulter and No 7 seed Elisabetta Cocciaretto. No 2 seed Sorana Cirstea withdrew in the semi-finals. Born in Nova Kakhovka in Ukraine, Podrez has lived in France since 2012 and played in front of an adopted home crowd all week – a detail that was not lost on the Rouen audience.

It is Kostyuk’s first title of 2026 and the second of her career. For Podrez, a first WTA final at No 209 in the world is a result that will move her well inside the top 150 on Monday.
