Lin Zhu upsets top seed Mladenovic to win WTA 125K event in Korea

Ranked No 142 in the world, Lin Zhu scores a straight sets win over former world No 10 Mladenovic

Second seed Lin Zhu, of China, upset top-seeded Krstina Mladenovic 6-0, 6-4 to win the Hana Bank Korea Open in Seoul, Korea on Sunday.

Lin Zhu, ranked 142nd in the world, needed one hour and 18 minutes to defeat Mladenovic, a former world No 10 who is now ranked 98th in the world.

The tournament is the final stop on the WTA 125K series for 2021.

The event also marked a memorable outing for the talented Fruhvirtova sisters, of the Czech Republic.

16-year-old Linda Fruhvirtova won two matches to reach the quarter-finals in Seoul, going down to Ektaerina Kazionova while 14-year-old Brenda Fruhvirtova reached the second round, losing to Yuki Naito.

Both the sisters are among the top juniors in the world with Linda currently ranked No 2 on the ITF junior rankings list and Brenda ranked No 4.
