Russian Anna Kalinskaya defeated Kazakh Elena Rybakina, the No 7 seed, 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 to reach the round of 32 at the Madrid Open at the Caja Magica on Friday.
It is Kalinskaya’s first top-10 win on clay, and a measure of revenge after Rybakina beat her in Miami last month.
Kalinskaya, ranked No 62, will play the winner of the match between Croat Petra Martic, the No 27 seed, and German qualifier Laura Siegemund next.
The Russian edged out Czech wildcard Brenda Fruhvirtova (2-6, 6-4, 6-4) ahead of her victory.
