Fifth seed Daria Snigur delivered a masterclass in clinical tennis to claim the W75 Oeiras title at the Jamor Indoor complex, dismantling top-seeded Viktorija Golubic 6-3, 6-3 in Sunday’s final.
The victory marks a significant statement for the 23-year-old Ukrainian, whose unorthodox, flat-hitting game proved untouchable throughout the week in Portugal.
Snigur’s path to the trophy was defined by sheer dominance. Ranked No. 133 coming into the event, she navigated a minefield of seeded opponents without dropping a single set. Her campaign began with a lopsided 6-1, 6-1 victory over Viktoria Hruncakova, followed by a 6-2, 6-0 rout of Great Britain’s Naiktha Bains.
In the quarterfinals, she dismantled second-seeded Sinja Kraus 6-1, 6-0, before neutralizing third-seeded Suzan Lamens 6-3, 6-3 in the semifinals.
Conversely, Golubic’s journey to the final was a test of resilience. The world No. 88 was pushed to three sets by both Teodora Kostovic and Fiona Crawley, though she showed her veteran class by dispatching local favorite Ana Filipa Santos and seventh seed Kaitlin Quevedo in straight sets.
However, in the championship match, Snigur’s relentless pace and depth proved too much for the Swiss star’s variety. By securing the title, Snigur bolsters her ranking and reaffirms her status as one of the most dangerous unorthadox competitors on the indoor circuit.
