Eighth seed Dominika Salkova captured the Open Arena Les Sables d’Olonne title on Sunday afternoon, delivering a ruthless 6-4, 6-0 victory over Spain’s Andrea Lazaro Garcia.
The 21-year-old Czech, currently ranked No. 152, secured her maiden WTA 125 trophy by winning the final eight games of the match in a clinical display of power hitting.
Salkova’s path to the title was marked by impressive resilience, most notably her straight-sets semifinal win over former junior world No. 1 Alina Korneeva. Throughout the week, the Czech showcased her adaptability, overcoming a set deficit against veteran Mona Barthel and maintaining composure in tight tiebreaks against Anna Siskova.
For Lazaro Garcia, the final was a disappointing end to a standout week where she ousted home favorites Fiona Ferro and Manon Leonard, as well as seventh seed Lucia Bronzetti. However, the Spaniard had no answer for Salkova’s depth and accuracy in the second set. With this victory, Salkova is projected to break into the world’s top 130 for the first time in her career.
