Osaka Open: Ito makes last four

Japanese qualifier Aoi Ito won against German lucky loser Eva Lys 6-7 (8), 6-2, 6-3 to reach the semi-finals of the Osaka Open at the Utsubo Tennis Center on Friday.
Ito, ranked No 188, will face the winner of the match between Australian qualifier Kimberly Birrell and Japanese wildcard Sara Saito next.
Ahead of her victory, the 20-year-old Japanese edged out American wildcard Sofia Kenin (6-2, 3-6, 7-5) and beat Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto, the No 8 seed (6-4, 6-3).
Lys, ranked No 118, won against Colombian Camila Osorio (6-2, 6-3) and edged out American McCartney Kessler (7-6 (7), 3-6, 7-5) in the previous rounds of the Osaka tournament.
