Ostapenko wins big-hitting battle in Adelaide, through to quarter-finals

Latvian Jelena Ostapenko, the No 6 seed, edged out Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 to advance to the last eight of the Adelaide Open at the Memorial Drive Tennis Park on Wednesday night.
Ostapenko, ranked No 12, will face Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk next.
The Latvian edged out Romanian Sorana Cirstea (2-6, 6-2, 6-4) in the previous round of the Adelaide tournament.
During the first round of the Adelaide tournament, Garcia, ranked No 20, won against Australian wildcard Taylah Preston (6-4, 1-6, 6-3).
