Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina edged out Czech Petra Kvitova 7-6 (5), 6-4 to advance to the semi-finals of the Ostrava Open on Friday evening.
Kazakhstan’s Rybakina, ranked No 26, will play Czech Barbora Krejcikova next, having clinched victory with her 11th ace of the match.
In the previous rounds, the Kazakh defeated American Madison Keys (5-7, 6-3, 6-3) and edged out Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich (6-7 (5), 6-4, 7-5).
Kvitova, ranked No 20, edged out American qualifier Bernarda Pera (6-3, 2-6, 6-4) and won against Spaniard Paula Badosa, the second seed (7-6 (4), 6-4) earlier in the tournament.
