Italian Jasmine Paolini, the No 5 seed, beat Spaniard Sara Sorribes Tormo 7-6 (6), 6-0 to move into the final of the Palermo Open at A.S.D. Country Time Club on Saturday evening.
Paolini, ranked No 52, will play the winner of the match between Egyptian Mayar Sherif, the No 3 seed, and Chinese Qinwen Zheng, the second seed, next.
The Italian won against Dutchwoman Arantxa Rus (6-4, 5-7, 6-2), Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska (2-6, 6-4, 6-2) and Russian Daria Kasatkina, the top seed (6-4, 4-6, 6-3) ahead of her victory.
In the previous rounds of the Palermo tournament, Sorribes Tormo, ranked No 85, defeated Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto, the No 4 seed (6-3, 4-6, 6-0), Italian qualifier Nuria Brancaccio (6-3, 6-2) and Frenchwoman Clara Burel (6-1, 7-6 (6)).
