Palermo Open: Sorribes Tormo moves into semi-finals

Spaniard Sara Sorribes Tormo beat Frenchwoman Clara Burel 6-1, 7-6 (6) to move into the semi-finals of the Palermo Open at A.S.D. Country Time Club on Friday afternoon.

Sorribes Tormo, ranked No 85, will face the winner of the match between Russian Daria Kasatkina, the top seed, and Italian Jasmine Paolini, the No 5 seed, next.

Earlier in the tournament, the Spaniard won against Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto, the No 4 seed (6-3, 4-6, 6-0) and Italian qualifier Nuria Brancaccio (6-3, 6-2).

Burel, ranked No 94, won against Austrian Julia Grabher, the No 8 seed (6-4, 7-5) and Spaniard Cristina Bucsa (6-2, 6-4) in the previous rounds of the Palermo tournament.
