Romanian Jaqueline Cristian, the top seed, moved into the quarter-finals of the Puerto Vallarta Open by defeating Japanese Ena Shibahara 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 on Wednesday.
Cristian, ranked No 72, will face German Tatjana Maria, the No 5 seed, next.
The Romanian won against Harriet Dart (6-3, 6-2) in the previous round.
Earlier in the week, Shibahara, ranked No 138, won against American Hanna Chang (6-0, 6-3).
