San Jose Open: Anisimova books spot in second round

Amanda Anisimova won against wildcard Ashlyn Krueger 6-2, 7-6 (5) to reach the second round of the San Jose Open at San Jose State University Tennis Center on Monday evening.

Anisimova was playing her first match since reaching the Wimbledon quarter-final last month. The 22nd-ranked American improves to 30-11 on the season, and 11-5 on hard courts.

She won 80 percent of her first-serve points and saved two of four break points against her 18-year-old opponent.

Krueger, the 2020 Orange Bowl winner as a junior, won a 60K title last month in Evansville, and is currently ranked 242.

Anisimova, ranked No 22, will play the winner of the match between wildcard Katie Boulter and Czech Karolina Pliskova, the No 8 seed, next.
