San Jose Open: Kasatkina makes quarter-finals, dismantling Townsend

Russian Daria Kasatkina, the No 7 seed, defeated American qualifier Taylor Townsend 6-4, 6-0 to reach the quarter-finals of the San Jose Open at San Jose State University Tennis Center on Wednesday.

Kasatkina, ranked No 12, will face the winner of the match between American lucky loser Caroline Dolehide and Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, the No 4 seed, next.

Ahead of her victory, the Russian won against Kazakh Elena Rybakina (1-6, 6-2, 6-0), who played her first match since her Wimbledon triumph.

Townsend, ranked No 316 and now a mother coming back on the Tour, beat Australian qualifier Storm Sanders (6-1, 6-4) in the previous round.
